Our New Chapel

Our new worship area has been built but it did not start with the laying of the foundations or finish with the laying of the carpet. There is a screen and a projector but this will not show anyone God’s love, there are microphones and instruments but they cannot offer God worship in themselves. There are comfortable seats yet I hope that there will be times when you will be uncomfortable as you sit in them.

From the outset when we decided to ‘go for it!’ we saw his hand of blessing, the generosity on our gift day surpassing anyone’s expectations, the way that the tender came in at almost exactly the amount we could afford, the way that builders, architects and workers have laboured diligently and with care and enthusiasm. There are so many thank yous to say, so many who have played a visible role and many more working carefully in the background.

Building our new worship area is a great achievement for us. As I have said before it builds on the great tradition that has gone on before us, the foundation stone of prayer and worship that has taken place on this site for many years. Yet this particular building started with a vision, a hope that God would bless our project so that we might be a blessing to him, to his work and to the people in the surrounding area. Our real foundations are a continuing hope and expectation that God will continue to bless us.

The ninth of December 2006 was a great day of celebration and thanksgiving, and thank you all for coming. The ninth of December was also a time of earnest prayer and heart searching – ‘Lord you have brought us this far, you have fulfilled your promise to us, but this is not your promised land but a glimpse of it’. May we continue to be a people urged on by the prompting of the Spirit, full of vision and enthusiasm for the great work to which he has called us.
